Hi I have osteoarthritis in the balls of my feet and toes. An xray showed severe hallux rigidis in the knuckle of both big toes. I am a patient at the University of Colorado Hospital and my regular dr referred me to a podiatrist who tried to give me a steroid injection, but could barely pull he joints apart enough to insert the needle. The benefit was minimal. My regular MD then consented to physical therapy, which resulted in momentary relief, but a feeling of extreme pain and swelling (not visible) the next day. The PT recommended a tens machine which seemed to cause more pain. She also suggested orthotics, which do help a bit. I m wondering there is another treatment that may help. I don t want surgery -- I ve already had spine surgery for stenosis, and now have two fused discs and limited mobility in my back. Is there any other possible treatment or specialist available to me in Denver? CU Hospital has been a disappointment, and my physician shows minimal interest.
