How Can Osteomyelitis Be Treated?

Hello, My name is Jennifer Simpson I have had osteomyelitis for six and a half years. I have had six surgeries two failed hip replacements. Right hip and also need a left knee replacement. Left foot has fallen arch due to a bad knee. My question is there an alternative to the metal being used. I am afraid the knee replacement may end up like my two failed hip surgeries. I am 51 years old and not married. In college working on a degree. I was a hairdresser for years. Now I can t stand up for long periods of time. I am at my wits end with my condition. Can you please give me your honest medical opinion?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I want to ask you whether these symptoms are associated with fever or not? As you are already under treatment, I will suggest you do a CT scan of involved joints and blood culture sensitivity test, complete haemogram after orthopedic consultation. For that now you have to take broad-spectrum antibiotics like injection Piptaz, injection Claribid, injection tramadol after orthopedic consultation, and after getting a culture sensitivity report, providing that you don’t have any drug allergy. If all symptoms are very severe, then you can go for joint replacement.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
