Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good morning Dr. am Agnes from Uganda. I have an ovarian cyst measuring 8.3*5.4cm. I went to a gyno who prescribed for me microgynon. Then he told me if it increased in size he will pierce it and drill the fluid out. I asked him is he going to do a laparascopy or use laser. he assured me that it doesn t require surgery. then i asked what about the suck on which the fluid has been retained he told me it will dissolve naturally. Personally i think a cyst that is above 5 cm may not dissolve with Family planning pills. Am confused and wondering how one can pierce up to the ovary without doing some surgery. I am scared because one time a lady had fibroids and doctors removed her uterus without her consent. Am aged 28 without children, i am scared of surgery.i will be pleased if you reply me on YYYY@YYYY . Thanks
Ovarian cysts do not require any treatment usually and they resolve most of the time themselves. Surgery will be required only, if cancer is suspected, does not go its own and causing symptoms of pain or bleeding. There is no known proved treatment like piercing and sucking the fluid from a cyst. Cyst removal (cystectomy) is the treatment of choice in most of the cases without damaging the ovary. However, in some of the cases ovary has to be removed.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
