How Can Pain And Numbness In The Toes Be Treated?

I have had a neuroma between some toes on my right foot for many years, following bunionectomy. For several years I experience pain, tingling, numbness in several toes on that foot. For the last several months I m awakened with extreme pain in that foot, extending under the toes and into the ball of the foot. One steroid injection about 2-1/2 years ago gave me relief for a few months, but after the pain returned I had a second steroid injection which never offered any relief. I m beginning to dread going to bed at night because the pain appears out of nowhere, and disrupts sleep. Help.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As the amount of pain is substantial, I suspect underlying nerve compression over the part of old surgery of neuroma.

I recommend to discuss the need of diagnostic evaluation with MRI of the concerned region with or without nerve conduction study with your doctor for further final cure.

Wish you fine recovery and health.

Regards.
