How Can Pain And Swelling In The Joints Be Treated?

I have severe Rheumatoid arthritis which is basically under control with treatment... diagnosed in 1999 and presently on Symphonic, aarava, sulfasalazine. I have recently had red swollen painful joints on my finger and thumb joints which itch intensely. Can the itching be related to the RA?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this-

1)Take medications as per your Doctor's advice

2)Discuss with your Doctor to add [prednisone]in low dose

Do take some preventive steps like this-

1)Try to do exercise regularly. Gentle exercise can help strengthen the muscles around your joints, and it can help fight fatigue you might feel. If you're just getting started, begin by taking a walk.

2)Apply heat or cold. Heat can help ease your pain and relax tense, painful muscles. Cold may dull the sensation of pain. Cold also has a numbing effect and decreases muscle spasms.

3)Find ways to cope with pain by reducing stress in your life. Techniques such as guided imagery, distraction and muscle relaxation can all be used to control pain.

Hope that helps
