How Can Pain And Swelling On The Big Toe Be Treated?

My mother is 86 and diabetic. She also has dementia. Her right big toe between the nail and joint is swollen, red and tender to the touch. What can I do to ease the pain and swelling until she can see a physician. She also has high blood pressure,

Your mother seems to have symptoms suggestive of gout,a form of arthritis caused by uric acid crystals deposit in joints. Kindly ask her to check her uric acid levels and get an x ray if possible. for pain as of now she can take nsaids like diclofenac with pantop 40.
