How Can Pain And Swelling On The Foot After An Injury Be Treated?

My daughter dropped a bowling ball on her big toe and part of her foot. The ball fell about 2 feet to her foot. She is complaining of the pain. Ice was put on it right away, but it is still swollen and turning black and blue. Do you think it is possible broken and should she be taken to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
As per history she has injury to the toe so tell her to walk 5 meters and see whether she complains any pain or not if she feels pain do a X-ray.Do (RICE) Rest,Ice,compression, elevation. For compression use surgical tape , align both toes of both legs and lightly wrap in such a way that the injured toe will be in rest position.so after few days toe ligament will automatically repaired.May take at least one month.you can apply heat to the injured skin to improve circulation.so nothing to be worried at all.Do it otherwise I will send you a youtube video.(Thannks)
