After being diagnosed with Spinal Stenosis and Degenerative Disc Disease about 8 years ago, I have been offered a variety of prescription medications including: Naproxen, Diclofenac, Tramadol, Cyclobenzaprine, Gabapentin. The drug that gave me some relief was Tramadol, but after taking it for so long I no longer receive the relief that I once did. I also had a seizure while taking this medecine and quit for a year, but now am back to the point where day-to-day activities and duties are unbearable. I am in the midst of losing my career and can barely sleep. Have recently spoken to my Primary Care doctor who recommended going back on the tramadol. She explained the only alternative would be Oxycodine, since I have an allergy to Tylenol which is contained in most Hydrochodine brands. I have tried oxycodiene in the past and it worked wonderfully, but unfortunately the drug also has a bad reputation for abuse. I do not smoke or drink. My doctor, knowing all of this information and studying my MRI and X-ray, holds her opinion of me staying on Tramadol based only on my age (29 years old). Should I get referred to a pain clininc to contact a physician who better understands my needs and is more compassionate towards my situation?
