How Can Pain In The Ankle Be Treated?

I have had a sore ankle for several months. Just over a month ago I went to a medical centre as the pain was so bad it would wake me up at night and keep me up. When I elevated my foot the pain was worse. The movement in my ankle is quite restricted and if I straiten my foot out the pain is worse, including in bed at night as the foot straitens out naturally. When at the medical centre the doctor sent me for xrays on my foot. The doctor determined a fractured bone in my foot and prescribed me a medical air boot, going up to my knee almost. The next day he called to say the technician looked at the xrays and said there was no fracture but to keep wearing the boot if it helped. I continued to wear the boot for over 3 weeks 24/7 as it was helping greatly. Over the last 1 1/2 weeks I ve slowly gone from wearing it only when outside the house to only at bed time and now not at all. It has been feeling much better until today when now the pain is nearly as bad and elevating my foot tonight is again painful. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
