How Can Pain In The Buttocks Due To An Injury Be Treated?

I fell on my butt walking down the steps into the garage. I can stand and walk but with pain on the butt and down towards the leg. The area on the butt that I fell on has gotten very hard. I have taken Advil and applying ice. How bad does this sound? Is there anything else I should be doing? Thank you.

Hi,

You should get an X-ray done to rule out any fracture in the tailbone (coccyx). Do not massage and avoid doing heavy work. Maintain proper posture while sitting and standing and sit on a cushion. Take NSAIDs or Acetaminophen (Tylenol) to get relief from pain. Do apply a cold compress for pain relief. Stay at rest. It should get well in a couple of days. Take food high in fiber to avoid constipation, you can also take a stool softener.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
