How Can Pain In The Hips On The Left Side Be Treated?

I am having pain in left outer hip - similar to the location of the bursa. The pain is predominantly at night, waking me from sleep. It is deep to the bone. I walk/jog 15 miles per week - am 60 years old. Never had this kind of pain. I have NO PAIN during waking hours; when I a walking or jogging or sitting. Only at night. It does not match what I know of bursitis symptoms. What else might it be?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It could me ITB tendonitis. While constant rubbing while jogging will lead to symptoms of pain and discomfort. It might lead to symptoms of bursitis in later stages. Bit of rest and ice and modifications in running and not to run much will help. Problem persists do consult with orthopedics surgeon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Akshay
