How Can Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

I have been taking calcium citrate with vitamin D as a supplement for about two weeks. (Vitamin D 500 IU; Calcium (elemental) 400 mg; sodium 5%.) The directions say to take 1 or 2 tablets 2 times daily. I only take 1 tablet 1 time a day. I was told that it could make my joints hurt. The last couple of days my left hip and my right knee have started to hurt. I fell on my left hip about five years ago and my right knee was cut down to the bone in a car accident 49 years ago. Just for background info. My right knee hurts just below the scar just under the knee cap. The pain is worse on my right knee. I put some Icy Hot on my knee last night. It didn t seem to help that much. The pain was so bad that it woke me from sleep. I finally thought of the calcium and I have stopped taking it as of this morning. If the pain is from the calcium, how long will it be before the pain goes away? Or Dd you think this could be arthritis?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Most probably it will be due to ligament or tendon involvement.

Consult an orthopedician and get an MRI scan done.

As of now, analgesics like Aceclofenac or Tramadol can be tried.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
