How Can Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

I twisted my knee a couple of days ago and it is still a bit sore at the front of the knee and when I kneel. More painful though is a burning sensation in my shin which started 24 hours after the initial injury. It hurts when sitting or with leg elevated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, sorry to hear about the injury.
Injury in the knee joint caused by sudden or forceful twisting are called knee sprain and it is caused because of ligament injury or ligament tear.
Some important measures to relieve the pain are-
1. Immobilise and keep the foot straight using a crepe bandage or knee brace.
2. Apply ice pack.
3. Keep the foot elevated.
4. Taking antiinflammatory, analgesic tablets.
5. Applying analgesic spray ( no massage) .
It might take 4-6 weeks to heal depending on the severity. However, if the pain doesn't reduce after following the above measures, kindly see a orthopedic surgeon.
Get well soon.
