Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Recently, I knelt down to open a window and I felt my knee pop. That was a few days ago. I have put up my knee and put ice on it but the pain is getting worse each day. It is a stabbing pain on the inside of my right knee. I have had my left knee rebuilt already and it is getting sore compensating for the new injury. I swim almost everyday and I was wondering: should I get to a doctor or give it more time and should I skip swimming or keep it moving by going to swimming?
In all probability, you must have had a meniscal injury to your right knee. This can happen with knee joint movement of getting up from kneeling position. Initial treatment is conservative. Give complete rest to the knee, especially avoid flexion and extension movements. Wear a knee brace, which has hard plastic or metal strips at the sides, which allows a minimal movement. Avoid swimming till the severe pain resolves. You may take a pain medication to reduce the knee pain, if required. Infra-red therapy for 15 minuted twice a day will help. With this management, in 3 to 6 weeks, you will be pain free and be able to walk freely.
