How Can Pain In The Knees Be Treated?

I applied a 4% lidocaine patch to each of my husband s knees. Within 30 minutes, he was extremely cold, cold to the point that layers of blankets and a heating pad did not relieve him. He has terrible knee pain and would like to use topical pain relief instead of oral. Any suggestions? Did the patches cause the coldness and what else can be used for his knee pain?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can try Prilocaine patches is which is very much effective and last longer. But cost might be a problem. Other options are topical Diclofenac creams like Voveran gel but the results are not that much good. Patches may cause a feeling of cold but it is not matter of concern and it might be due to anesthetic action of the patches.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
