Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a bad knee ...one is already replaced....and I have disc problems in my back. I used to love TO WALK BUT THE BACK PROBLEMS AND PAIN IS PREVENTING THAT. I WILL SOON BE GOING FOR A MRI....SPINAL STENOSIS...... I need to lose a lot of weight. Can you suggest something I can do for weight loss?? I don t want to be stuck not being able to do anything and I really do not want surgery on my back. I will refuse it because from those that I know, it can be worse. I am 65 and my husband has retired and we want to travel and do things together but with my back pain, it stops me and that makes me mad and frustrated. Have been to PT and didn t work. Next is the cortisone shot in the spine....will that help? I don t know......can you offer any suggestions? PLEASE!!!!!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Yes, epidural steroid infiltration is the best choice for your problem. I, being an anesthesiologist, have done many procedures to patients and it usually gives you a minimum of 6 months relief.
It's the daycare surgery and they just insert a needle into the epidural space and give you a steroid shot. After surgery, no recovery time needed at all. In fact, it's not surgery just the daycare procedure. Do go for it.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
