How Can Pain In The Left Shoulder And Upper Arm Be Treated?
Polymyalgia Rheumatica I am 69 years old with a developing pain in left shoulder and upper arm. A couple of weeks now. Hardly can lift arm to even put on a shirt. I haven’t done any hard work or lifting. My research here may indicate this is what I may have. I am a veteran and can go to see my Dr. Just thought I might ask here for your suggestion. Thank you Carl Sjoholm
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.
Based on the history you have shared, you may need long term pain meds like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen alongwith more potent analgesics like tramadol if pain is severe or nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin etc. A rheumatologist review is helpful in.that regards to have baseline autoimmune work up and to decide for a pusle of steroids.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
