How Can Pain In The Legs, Hands And Shoulders Be Treated?

My 50 year old husband has a lot of pain in specific areas of his legs, hands and shoulders. I massage him every night to break the inflammation, as I can palpate sacs under his skins of various sizes and always where he experiences pain. In fact, I can find the pain centers by massaging his legs, shoulders, oh yes, I forget about his feet, which also has these sacs of liquid under his skin. He didn t used to have this pain, it surfaced gradually over the last two years and appears to be more and more areas that have this pain, like the back of his knees. So, the sacs are in his calves, thighs, shoulders under his scapula. What can he do to reduce the pain but more importantly, to prevent them? He s not overweight, about 6 2 , 180 lbs. Thank you for any input Mariam

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms of your husband seem to be related to rheumatoid arthritis. I recommend to do a rheumatoid factor level and ESR level. Meanwhile, I suggest using anti inflammatory medication such as Ibuprofen 400 mg to relieve the pain. I also suggest physical therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
