How Can Pain In The Lower Back Be Treated?

Hi. I am a 62-year old woman. I am the primary caregiver for my elderly mother. Tonight I was trying to reposition her bed and had to lift it a bit. As I lifted I heard a very large pop sound, followed by a great deal of pain, and some nausea. I took an oxycodone (5 mg), and then 200mg of ibuprofen, and have been sitting with my lower back supported ever since. Pain is now like a dull ache.

hello concerned patient,
i read your query and understood your history.
dont worry, as the popping sound doesnt suggest a serious injury unless you are experiencing loss of sensation, touch, temperature,a tingling sensation or the feeling of a paralysed limb or severe movement restriction affecting functions.
if you have none of the above, but just a dull ache as you mentioned, you are probably having a lower back sprain/strain associated with muscle ache when your body underwent an abnormal jerky unbalanced movement

I would suggest you to take rest, can continue with ibuprofen twice daily for three days or else take aceclofenac and thiocolchicoside combination tablet twice daily for 5 days which would ease the pain and relax the muscles.
apply warm cloth compresses and apply diclofenac gel over the site where you feel the pain.it will relive you of your symptoms in three to four days

Since you are 62years old,i would also recommend a calcium tablet supplement to be take once daily from now on

in case pain aggravates or any of the above warning signs mentioned earlier is felt, please visit an orthopaedician who will manage further based on xray or mri if needed

hope i have clarified your query and hope it helps.stay safe.have a speedy recovery.good day
