How Can Pain In The Middle Back Be Treated?

I stepped back to break what I thought might be me falling backwards. I felt shortly afterward a pain in my middle back and found leaning forward helped relieve it. I was wondering whether to ice or apply heat to help it? It is not as intense but I still feel a catch to my right side back. Also, I was planning on taking some Ibuprofen to ease the pain so I can sleep tonight.
