Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was moving boxes and furniture Saturday and I seemed to pull my neck (muscle) I added cold compress which seemed to help my neck but my ear and head are still hurting pretty bad and I was wondering what to do.... add heat? take something for a migrane ... add cold again? If I move my head it hurts.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You can take paracetamol 500 mg, 4 times a day and Ibuprofen 400 mg 4 times a day after food (you can take paracetamol and ibuprofen together). Local heat might help to relax the muscle so you can try it and see which helps you better, heat or cold, some patients are better with one and some with the other but most do improve with local warm compresses.
Please do not massage the area as you can hurt more muscle fibers and get worse. If the pain is not improving you can see a physiotherapist that can help the muscles relax and also give you exercises that will be of real help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Kind regards, Antoneta Zotaj, MD
