Hi, My mother has Right Knee pain and there was some fluid accumulation as well, Ortho doctor did synovial biopsy . When they tested the fluid they suspected MB-TB and we did PCR for the tissue, which came out negative. But, the Knee pain still persists and some small fluid accumulation again. Doctor suggested to take AKT4. and she is taking it from last 3 weeks. 1) Is there any other thing which can cause the Knee pain and fluid accumulation 2) Will there be any sideeffects if she take ATK4 for 6 months 3) After 2 weeks of AKT4 , we did LFT and Uric acid test, LFT is normal but uric acid is high
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
This is due to Pyrazinamide, which increase uric acid level and cause joint pain. Every drug have some side effects . But recurrent fluid accumulation can be cause of TB joint. So AKT-4 kit can be continued.
Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani,
