Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
About two weeks ago fell on right leg. There s fluid on the left-side of leg. No bruising for about a week. Shin is pretty sore; however, I have been able to walk so I think nothing s broken. Applied muscle rub as needed with cold compress for about a week. Aleve for pain. Black & Blue clearing on back side of leg down to foot. I elevate my leg as soon as I get home in the evening. I m trying to put off knee replacement as long as I can. Thank you, Diane
The findings that you have swelling on the inside of your right leg, after the trauma, and that there is discoloration of the area shows that you could be having an hematoma of the leg. This could be due to muscle injury, or even a hairline fracture of the leg bone. It would be good if you could rule out a fracture by doing an X Rat of the leg bones. If xray shows no bone injury, then the cause of you discomfort is soft tissue and muscle injury. For that to resolve, you will have to give as much rest as is possible to the leg. A small hematoma can resolve on its own in 7 to 10 days. If not, please consult a general surgeon who can examine you and decide if the hematoma requires to be surgically evacuated.
