How Can Pain In The Shoulder After An Injury Be Treated?

I have a rotator cuff tear. I have had it for approximately 8 months. It is extremely painful. I am 59 years old and have had physical therapy with no relief. I am wondering what type of surgery may be neccesary and what kind of recovery time I am looking at.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Rotator cuff injury needs arthroscopic repair. So better to consult orthopedic doctor and get done MRI of shoulder joint. Once your Rotator cuff tear is repaired, you will be alright. Post repair physiotherapy is needed to stabilize the movements. Don't worry, you will be alright.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
