Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mother has been having pain in her thigh for several months. Finally, had an MRi and it showed thickening of the femur and she had a sac of fluid. it does not bother her sitting, only when she walks. She is going to have a bone scan and also see an Orthopaedic in 3 weeks. Is there anything she can do for the pain?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Since MRI has shown sac of fluid and thickening of femur, you obviously need to meet an orthopedician. Till you see orthopedician which is after 3 weeks you can try some home remedies. In most cases, thigh pain can be treated with home remedies such as: 1. ice; 2. heat; 3. over-the-counter medications such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil); 4. weight management; 5. moderating activity; 6. stretching and strengthening exercises for the pelvis, hip, and core.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr Sanjay Kini
