How Can Pain In The Upper Abdomen Be Treated?

Hi MD, my back went out last Sunday. I ve iced and heated it for a couple of days...went to see a massage therapist. I also did an epsom salt bath for 30min. She said my hips and pelvic area was out of place. She worked on my hips, pelvis, stomach, back, and legs. It gave me some relief, but I m still having some pain in my stomach upper left and it bothers me anytime I would drink water and my back feels stiff. What I couldn t understand was why my stomach started hurting after my back went out? I ve had back issues for about 20+ years. Please respond I ll wait to hear your advise. Thank you

Hello,

We have to rule out possible causes like gastritis and pancreatitis.

As first-line management, you can take drugs like Tramadol for pain relief.

If symptoms persist better to consult a gastroenterologist and plan for an MRI scan.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
