Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I think I hurt my xiphoid process while exercising, lifting weights. It makes it hard to breathe, painful when I touch it. and painful to sleep on my left side. I did go to an urgent care over the weekend and they did tests to make sure it wasn t my heart. How long will the pain last if I take it easy and not exercise?
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history and understood the concerns. The pain from injured xiphoid process can be nagging and troublesome as all the movements that include trunk instigates pain and makes even trivial activities troublesome. It is good and important that cardiac check up is normal. The standard treatment is as follows: Anti-inflammatory medication Oral or local injectable steroids. Strict bed rest. Laxatives if constipation. Deep breathing exercises to avoid atelectasis. Review by your regular Doctor for further management.
