Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello, I have pericoronitis which I have been prescribed anti-biotics for, just opening my mouth is painful. I m using anti-septic mouthwash, just there when I used it last, I spat out a piece of gum tissue that s eroded away beside the infection. What should I do about this?
As per your complain if you have Pericoronitis that is the inflammation of the gum flap that is covering your wisdom tooth then a piece of tissue can be gum that must have bitten off by teeth and came off during gargling..
Taking antibiotics and painkillers is helpful but in case if there are repeated episodes of the same problem then the best way to get rid of it is to either get the gum flap removed by Operculectomy procedure or if the wisdom tooth is impacted that will not erupt completely then Extraction of wisdom tooth is the most appropriate treatment..
As of now you need not to worry and continue taking antibiotics, take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, do warm saline gargles, gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine and try to open mouth wide till the limit of tolerance... Take a soft diet..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
