How Can Pain While Swallowing While Suffering From Shingles Be Treated?

I have the shingles, for the fourth time. I am a 70 year old male. The rash is not bothersome but the nerve pain is acute. I have extreme sensitivity on my entire right side. and am sleeping very little as I can not get comfortable. I woke up last night in pain simply from swallowing. What do you suggest?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You may be suffering from shingles associated neuropathy.

Use tablet Pregabalin.

Use Acyclovir and use Acyclovir topical ointment.

If not improved may need Nortriptyline also.

If symptoms not improved, please consult your neurophysician. He will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care.
