How Can Pain While Weaning Off Fentanyl Patch Be Managed?

My husband broke his neck last year in May of and has had to completely relearn how to do everything. He had gotten to where he could walk with just a cane, but now is having to use a walker. My question is he is trying to come off of the Fentanyl patch. He suffers so much pain, and his hands, arms, legs and feet start to tingle and ache and he sits and cries in pain. Is this side effects of the patch. And how long will this last?

Hello!

Thank you for the query.

He may be addicted to the Fentanyl if it has been used for a long time. Just taking it off is not the best idea. He should rather switch to lower dosage first and than a few weeks, decrease it again.
Painkillers like Diclophenac and Paracetamole should be started instead of it as well.

Hope this helps.
Regards.
