How Can Painful Arthritis In The Knees Be Treated?

I have severe pain with arthritis in both knees. I leave for two weeks of touring Geece, lots of cobblestones for 80-year-olds! I'm on 7.5 meloxican ( not started yet) also tramadol HCL 50mg 3x a day. New to this Dr. ? Start now or wait 2 1/2 weeks?

Hi , welcome to 'Ask A Doctor' service. I have read your question and here is my advice.
The pain of the arthritis is moslty managed with pain killer, the safest is paracetamol. you can start taking it 2 tab 3 to 4 times a day , if this work thats great you can continue with this till needed as this is very safe.
If this does not work for you , you can use meloxicam but it should not be taken for long times. Similarly you can take tramadol , if you need for long time other then paracetamol you can opt for tramadol which may be used for long time. However these drugs should be used only if there is pain .
Hopes i have answered your question .I would be happy to answer any further question if you have.

kind Regards n
