Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a severe case of cervical torticollis and it hurts on the right side only. it hurts when I swallow. it starts underneath my ear and wraps around to the front of my throat. like someone is choking me. what can I get done to that area to help stop the severe muscle spasms and pain. I m currently seeing a pain dr but he just says its muscle spasms and doesn t realize how severe my case is. it s really interfering with my life.
Cervical dystonia there's is no permanent cure but it is treated with botulinum injections, sensory tricks, such as touching the opposite side of your face or the back of your head, may cause spasms to stop temporarily.
Deep brain stimulation, cutting the nerves may useful. If symptoms not improved please consult your neuro physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Penchila Prasad Kandikattu , Internal Medicine Specialist
