Hello,

You have not mentioned the uric acid levels of your son.Sometimes gout is caused because of eating a diet rich in purine like red meat, shell fish etc.You must first assess the diet of your son.

Sometimes the body produces too much uric acid and in that case he has to be investigated by a renal specialist. He may have to be put on allopurinol for a few months to reduce his uric acid levels.

Meanwhile he can take an over the counter painkiller like naproxen to relieve pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
