How Can Painful Intracranial Hypertension Be Treated?
I have had chronic hypercrainal hypertension /pseudotumor cerebri for the 13 years. My current pain treatment is microdosing via an implanted medical drug infusion bolus pump. We are currently using morphine as the drug of choice. Been on this treatment since 10/2014. Prior therapy was Fentanyl . Question: Need more pain control for breakthrough pain management
Hi .welcome to "Ask A Doctor service". I have read your question and here is my advice . To be very honest , if the diagnosis is sure of pseudotumour cerebri, then morphine is not a choice for the pain. The pain can be very well helped by reducing the pressure .this is either done by repreated lumber puncture that is removing some fluid from the spine or by doing a VP shunt that is a surgical procedure to make a conection between your brain fluid in to teh abdomen .these are done quite commonly by neurosurgeon. Howe've if some how u are not doing surgory then some drugs can be used or the dose of morphine can be increased by your doctor . Hopes I have answered your question. I will be glad to answer any further question about this. Kind Regards Dr Rahman
