How Can Painful Shoulder Dislocation Be Treated?

I dislocated my shoulder completely out of the socket 8 days ago. Should it still be this painful? seems there has been some nerve damage also. Several fractures that did not dislocate. I am in so much pain. I am unable to sleep in any position as the pain is to much. ibuprofin will deaden it a bit but not for long. Should i be using heat instead of ice.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
Sorry to hear the pain you have to go through.
Most important thing in your treatment is immobilizing your joint in sling, visiting orthopaedician and undergoing manual reduction of joint. The pain is drastically reduced after this.
If I were your treating doctor,I would recommend,
-manual reduction of dislocated joint and immobilizing the shoulder in sling for 4-6 weeks depending on recovery.
- anti inflammatory drugs like ibuprofen or naproxen twice a day for couple of days, muscle relaxant drugs like baclofen.
-gradual increase in motility of joints by exercising at elbow and wrist joints.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks and regards.
