How Can Painful Shoulder Osteoarthritis Be Treated?

I have tramdol HCl 50 mg tab mylan (but havent taken any yet) my condition is degenerative arithitis in both shoulders with a torn rotator cuff in the rgt shoulder. I had cortizone shots in both in May but the pain has returned. I have trouble sleepingin my bed and have to try to sleep in my recliner chair. Have tried Tyeleol and Aleve but they dont seem to stop the pain. Like most 82 year olds I afraid to take an opiad drug. I have good range of motion with little pain during the day. I will see my dr. On Sept. 26th and ask for more cortizone shots. Til then I NEED to sleep, got any suggestions? Robb Smith

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can consider using the Tramadol, it would help relieve pain and also make you drowsy so that you can sleep.

Some people may experience nausea with the use of Tramadol, in that case, Dramamine or another medication can be used to help with nausea, if it occurs. Intermittent usage of Tramadol would not lead to dependence or addiction.

I hope this helps
