How Can Painful Sores On The Calves Be Treated?

a very dear friend of mine has told me about 3 months ago that she has sores on her calves that drain of the day and they hurt her during the night when they scab over. She is very obese. I have been trying to talk her into going to a doctor because everything I have read, none of it is good. I have finally got to to join me on a low carb diet but I am afraid that this might not work quick enough. Is there anything that she can use that doesn t burn like fire for her legs, so that those sores will heal. Marita has been using vasoline to keep them moist and I am afraid she is sealing germs in at those sores.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The symptoms seem to be related to an infection. I suggest you to clean and dry the area frequently. Then an antibiotic ointment should be applied. If the symptoms continue then a physical examination is needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
