Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I seem to have a chronic stiff neck with pain radiating into the back of my head - duration approx. 1 mo. I have been sleeping on my couch (recuperating from a broken hip) for approx. 3 mos. and I wonder if the couch or pillow I use is too soft ( I have tried a variety of small pillows). I have not had the stiff neck for the entire time I have been on the couch. The discomfort lasts all day tho it eases a bit as the day progresses. Any advise will be appreciated.
hello, i can understand your concern. Yours is a classic case of pain in the neck due to improper posture as this has started recently. I would advise you to use specific neck pillow that provide adequate support to the neck. pain radiating to arm and back of head indicates nerve compression. Use a cervical collar of appropriate size for a month. Apply warm compresses. this will increase the blood supply and relax the muscles. if pain still persists local application of diclofenac gel would be helpful. If the pain is severe you can take tab aceclofenac 100mg twice daily for five days.
Hope i have answered your query. Thanks for choosing HCM Wishing you a speedy recovery
