Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a prescription for clonazepam 0.5 mg that was originally prescribed for REM sleep disorder. I am no longer taking this at this time. However, I am having panic attacks right now and was wondering if this drug can be taken to alleviate the panic attacks at least in the short term. And if so, what is the best dosage? And, will it make me sleepy/drowsy if I take it during the day?
I have read through your question and would like to tell you that Clonazepam can be used in panic disorders, though it is not the drug of choice. It will make you drowsy. A better alternative will be a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor. These are all prescription drugs and I would advise you to consult your physician regarding the dose suitable for you and the choice of drug.
I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions, please feel free to write to me. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Nazma.amman, General & Family Physician
