How Can Paternity Of An Unborn Child Be Determined?
I had two partners I was seeing. The first guy I had sex with on April 4th and I took the day after pill the same day I than got my period April 26th. I started sleeping with my new partner the beginning of May and on May 25th I took a clear blue digital pregnancy test that said I was 2-3 weeks pregnant. Who am I pregnant for
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. It is difficult to predict who could be the father of the child based on the timing of intercourse with your partners. This is because, after fertilization, the time taken for the fertilized egg to get implanted could vary. Fertilization occurs within 12-24 hours after ovulation. Post fertilization the egg travels through the Fallopian tubes into the uterine cavity, which may take about 6-7-days. It could take another 2-3 days for the future embryo moving freely in the uterine cavity to preparation for implantation. Paternity of the child can be determined by means of DNA fingerprinting technique. This is done ideally after the birth of the child. However, during pregnancy it can be done by an invasive procedure by means of using amniotic fluid through amniocentesis or by taking chorionic villi sample. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best. Regards, Dr.Ashakiran.S., MBBS., MD.
