How Can Penile Fracture And Erectile Dysfunction Be Treated?
I am a 57 yo male, 165 pounds in generally good health. I have high blood pressure which is well controlled on lisinopril. Two weeks ago, I was diagnosed with a penile fracture (a tear of the tunica albuginea). I was seen in the ER by a urologist who told me that since the injury was more than 6 hours old there was nothing he could do. I was sent home. The condition hasn t improved at all. I have had no erections since sustaining this injury. Is there nothing to be done? Tom
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Penile fractures usually require surgery. The surgeon will use stitches to close the tear in the tunica albuginea and corpus cavernosum. The main goals of treatment are to restore or maintain your ability to have erections and preserve urinary function.
Within 24 hours after fracture you can consult your surgeon. He will examine and repair the defect.
I hope I have answered your query. Let me know if you have any further questions. Regards, Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
