How Can Peripheral Neuropathy Be Treated?

I have been taking HCT 12.5 twice daily for over 10 years for treatment of high BP. I was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy (lower legs and feet) 2 years ago. I have recently started osteopathic treatments for the neuropathy. I want to get off the medications. The HCT question came up. My primary care MD does not seem to be aware of the effects that the HCL may have on my neuropathy symptoms. Shall I suggect decreasing the HCT or use other medications to control the BP?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. . I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
This indicates peripheral neuropathy which is a result of damage to your peripheral nerves, often causes weakness, numbness and pain, usually in your hands and feet. It can also affect other areas of your body.
Treatment actually depends on the right cause. Most common causes are diabetes, alcoholism, inherited disorders or trauma and medications however, many other causes may be seen so tests are required to identify the right one. Till that you can do some general remedies: Avoid factors that may cause nerve damage, including repetitive motions, cramped positions, exposure to toxic chemicals, smoking and overindulging in alcohol. Also take vitamin d supplemets and regulate blood sugar levels.
