How Can Persistent Cough Be Treated?

I have a persistent cough that originates from my throat area. I am not sick at all and it has been happening for almost a year or so now. When I cough, I seems to clear a blockage of some sort. I have an appt. set with an ENT for February 6 but I just looking to see if I can get any ideas on what it could be.
