How Can Persistent Coughing, Causing Pain In The Abdomen And Chest, Be Treated?

hi, my 16 year old has a cough over a week now, congested cough, she has been taking mucinex. no change for a week, now her upper abdomen and chest hurt--probably from coughing so much--but some of the pain is sudden and spasms. No fever. No runny nose. The CareNow is closed. Will try to get her in to a doctor tomorrow. Any suggestions until then?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

It seems to be generalized viral upper respiratory tract infection. Symptomatic management continued until you consult doctor. Excess coughing can lead chest pain as well. Gastritis associated me get leading here spasm and abdominal pain. Take decongestant like Levocetrizine and Rabeprazole tablets for week, drink lots of water, and take small meal in frequent interval.

If no improvement than auscultation, chest x-ray, CBC, and USG abdomen like investigations needed as per need. Consult physician for examination and further work-up accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
