General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Swelling of both ankles maybe due to the heart problems or sometimes a side effect of drugs like amlodipine. Varicose veins and venous insufficiency can cause lower leg edema as well. Rarely the kidneys and thyroid problems or liver problems with low protein in blood can cause it as well.

It is good for you to see your doctor to better determine the cause by a good physical examination and possibly some tests and give you the proper treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
