I was initially diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica. Went through prednisone treatment for 6 mos. Rheumatologist believe PMR is gone. I m hurting badly in neck area, shoulders, hips and groin area. Even lower back very tight. Very fatigued also and problems sleeping. What are some possibilities and who should I see to get relief.
Hello and welcome to Ask a doctor service. I have read through your question and here is my opinion. Polymyalgia Rheumatica mostly has a generic predisposition and unfair it has no cure. However the symptoms can be controlled with medical and physical therapy. A low dose corticosteroid like Prednisone is given over a period of three to six months to control the symptoms. The treatment can also be prolonged if symptoms does not subside. Concurrently a calcium supplement and vitamin rich diet should be taken to counter its side effects. You should also consult a physiotherapist for physical therapy. I hope that answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you good health.
