How Can Poor Appetite And Difficulty In Swallowing Be Treated?

I am a caregiver of a 86 year old gentleman - has had quadruple heart bypass and a hip replacement in one year - also diagnosed with congestive heart failure before bypass. Presently, he has little appetite, trouble swallowing and is consistently coughing up thick, sticky mucous which is so discouraging - and problematic in eating. Does Ipratropium Bromide nasal spray help with this condition?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated to rule out conditions like any growth or tumors of esophagus or throat.

If he cannot take food, he might require a nasogastric tube for food intake.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
