General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thanks for putting up your query over here.
First the cause underlying failure to gain in weight in children needs to be found out.Mainly it depends upon their genetics, birth weights, their nutrition in first year and frequency of infections in them till now. Also it depends upon the food habits they have inculcated.
If I were your treating doctor,I would recommend,
-Visit to a good paediatrician for clinical examination and ruling out any underlying pathology if present.Basic blood tests like blood haemogram may be required.
-Anti helminthic like albendazole one dose orally.
-Multivitamin supplementation.
-Keep them away from packaged and processed food products.Give candies and chocolates occasionally.Give them home made fresh food.Small frequent meals than a large one.Use energy dense food items like sugar, ghee, groundnut, jaggery in all meals.Avoid them from distractions like TV,mobile while eating.Have balanced diet including dairy, fruits, cereals.Mainly include vegetables and fruitsof different colours 2-3 servings in a day.
-Follow food safety measures, hygienic practices, vaccinate them in time, avoid exposure to indoor air pollutants like stove.
Hope this information helps.
Thanks.
