Hi, This is Dr Khyati. A preganancy can be confirmed by simple home based test from first morning urine. Although any random sample of urine is good enough but chances of detection are highest in the first morning sample. A urine pregnancy test kit comprises of a test card and a dropper. The instructions are written on the kit package and usually two dark lines indicate positivity. A single control test line indicates negative but valid test. If no line appears at the control site then the test is invalid. For earlier detection blood based serum beta hcg tests are also available and are done in laboratory. In this the pregnancy can be detected earlier than the urine pregnancy test. Hope the information was helpful.
