How Can Pregnancy Be Prevented After Unprotected Intercourse?

Hi Doc, I had unprotected sex with my husband about 20 hours ago, because my period was light on my 3/4 day, we decided not to use protection and we ended up having an accident . I took 4 blue pills Tri-Lo-Sprintec (Orto Tri Cyc) that I was prescribed about a month ago but haven t been taking due to deliberation on weather I want to be on birth control due to my mothers earlier age of breast cancer. I was still crurious about my risk of still conceiving, and the proper dosage I should be taking. Thanks you !

Hi,

4 tablets if taken within 24 are very effective in preventing pregnancy. It avoids pregnancy very often and pregnancy is very unlikely if taken within 24 hours though it may be effective for up to 72 hours.

So I would suggest you should relax and not worry a lot.
